EkoRural
Discover Ecuador's Agroecological Guide: an Online Resource for Sustainable, Community-Focused Food Shopping.
In 2017, the first version of the Agroecological Guide was created in Ecuador by founding members of EkoRural, a humanitarian project geared towards establishing healthier nutrition and a sustainable local food economy. Subud member, Michelle O'Fried who founded the FUEGOS project, supported by SDB for several years, has long been involved in EkoRural. Her passion is in nutritional food
programmes and training. The guide they produced is an online resource designed to help consumers find agroecological markets and shops. The guide responded to a simple but important question that many people ask:
Where can we buy food that is produced with care for the land and for the well-being of communities?
Each market or shop included in the guide represents much more than simply a place to buy food. It represents the work of farmers and small enterprises committed to ecological practices, local economies, and the health of their communities. By making these initiatives visible, the guide helps consumers support these efforts through their everyday purchasing decisions. SDB is supportingEcoRural to update and expand the listings of markets and shops, improving the platform’s usability, and strengthening collaboration with agroecological networks, in order to support this important trend towards sustainable food-growing and healthier communities in Ecuador.
